A Burglary Occurs Every 26 Seconds...🏠🕐
We discuss how you can prepare for a home invasion, the best long-distance defense option, and how NOT to design a security door 🚪.
Home Invasions 🏠🔐
Checking crime rates in an area is common when it comes to deciding on where to live. 🔐 Crime outside of the house, although unpleasant, is a given. But crime within the safety of our home is unimaginable. Yet, it happens every day. 😒
💯There are around 100 burglaries that result in homicide every year in the United States.
😲In the US, about a third of home invasions are repeat burglaries.
🌞A recent survey showed that burglaries and home invasions are most likely to happen during the day or early evening, not the night.
☠Fatal burglaries are very uncommon, happening at about 0.004% 🏡Simple assault is the most common violence during home invasions 🎇12% of home invasions involved fire-arms while 61% did not
Although most home invasions and burglaries are not fatal, they can still cause a lot of damage to a family and/or a home. 😲 It can be very traumatic to experience a potentially dangerous stranger forcibly invading your home. 👤 According to Statista, New Mexico had the most home invasions in 2019. Oklahoma came in second, and overall, 44% of home break-ins happen in the South. However, even if you think you live in a safe place, you never know what can happen.
Joke of the week 😂
I used to sell security alarms door to door, and I was REALLY good at it...
If no one was home, I would just leave a brochure on the kitchen table
Steps you can take 🐾
Measures should be taken to protect ourselves against the scary possibility of a home invasion. It’s important to get prepared to stay safe. 👍 There are many different steps you can take to further protect yourself and your family. 👣
💰Invest Your Money In Safety: Purchases such as surveillance cameras, smart locks, home insurance upgrades, or a new home in a safer area are all things one should consider.
📑Have A Plan: Get your family together and discuss what to do in case of an intrusion emergency. Pick a safe meeting spot that is easy to access from anywhere in the house. Choose a safe word or words that allow the entire family to quickly pick up on what is happening and what to do about it. Rehearse the plans. 🔐
🔪Sharpen Your Defences: Adding defenses to your home such as more secure locks will prepare you ahead of time for potential harm. Add stronger locks, alarms, motion sensor lights, and/or heavier doors to your home. These may seem like smaller renovations, but they will be big barriers for intruders who are trying to move fast and diligently. Throw them off with safety features that quickly alert you to an uninvited guest. 📢
⚒Get A Self Defense Tool. Since home invaders and burglars are statistically shown to typically operate without a firearm, it is to your advantage to have one. However, many are uncomfortable having a firearm in the house or are unable to legally own one. In those cases, a long-range pepper spray canister can provide defense while enabling you to keep your distance.
With such unprecedented times happening all around us, you never know what the future holds. As technology progresses, our safety increases. So use it to your advantage when it comes to protecting your home and protecting your family. 🔆 Equip yourself with the right tools and the right mindset to protect yourself against the unsettling notion of a home invasion or burglary.
