America Is On the Move 🚚... Are They Forgetting Something?
We also discuss fake security signs and what you can buy with $23 million dollars. Estimated reading time: 3 minutes.
Nearly 10 million people moved in 2020. The increase in remote work played a significant role in many of these decisions. Many traded long commutes and smaller homes for zoom calls and a larger place closer to family. As you are settling into your new home, don't forget to check out the new home security tips below:
🔒Change your locks: Although the previous homeowners may have seemed friendly during the sale process, you don’t want them to have access to your new home. Changing your locks ensures that previous residents or their friends can't get in.
🏡Cover the garage door windows: Is there a practical reason garage door windows exist? We haven’t been able to find one... All they seem to do is give thieves a glimpse at potential things to steal. An extra lock is a good idea too.
🌳Trim your bushes: Curb appeal takes second priority to security. Be sure to keep your landscaping trimmed to decrease the number of hiding places a burglar has access to.
🎥Get a home surveillance system: It’s as affordable as ever and deters criminals. Just don’t forget these tips to ensure your system won’t get hacked.
Are Fake Security Signs Dangerous? 🛑
Alarm systems are a great way to protect your home. That extra layer of security does however come at a premium. A premium many are unwilling to pay. So instead of paying to have the system installed, many opt to just put up a sign claiming they are protected. This tactic has many overlooked Pros & Cons and can be seen below.
✅Pro: Fake security signs are less expensive. You can get well-known branded signs on eBay for as little as $10.
✅Pro: A sign provides almost the same social proof as those who have the service.
📛Con: It could be illegal. Using a sign from a service you are not paying for could be an infringement on copyright law depending on where you live.
📛Con: A simple mobile google search by a thief can expose the fact your sign is outdated or representing an illegitimate brand.
📛Con: You don’t have an alarm! This is the most obvious con, but it’s also the most important one. A sign does nothing against an actual burglary attempt.

60 People, Not One Witness 🤔
A verbal confrontation escalated into gunfire at a child’s party this past weekend. What intended to celebrate a 12 years olds coming of age, ended in bullet wounds to 9 minors. Injuries varied in severity, but no one was killed.
Perhaps the most shocking aspect of this story is that 0 arrests have been made. Despite the estimated 60+ witnesses present at the Louisiana party, no one has been willing to make a statement.
Police speculate that the gunfire likely came from minors and not parents. To incentive people to come forward with information, John the Baptist Parish county authorities are offering a $2,500 reward for valuable intel.
What Can $23 Million Buy? 🤑
If you said 1 year's worth of CEO security, you’d be correct.
Facebook spent $23 million in 2020 on security for Mr. Zuckerberg😲. That is more than a $3 million increase from 2019. Facebook attributed the increase in CEO security spending to the election and COVID-19. Most of these expenses went towards protecting his home and travel security costs.
“...negative sentiment regarding our company is directly associated with, and often transferred to, Mr. Zuckerberg”
