New Feature Helps Protect Dating Service Users
Ever had an awkward encounter on a dating app? Maybe you have run into an ex or a coworker while swiping for your next date. 😫 Maybe you have even come across your boss! 😰 It’s no fun to have a swiping sesh ruined by embarrassing encounters. ❌
Thankfully the popular dating app Tinder just released their newest feature called 🚫 Block Contacts 🚫, which enables users to block certain people using their phone numbers. Now you can avoid seeing people you know while you’re swiping! Even more importantly, you can prevent run-ins with previous partners who have been verbally or physically abusive.
Users can use this new feature by going to Profile Settings and entering in which contacts they want to block (a full explanation can be seen here). This will prevent contacts from displaying as a potential match, and prevent you from being displayed to them. Awkwardness successfully avoided! Increased safety achieved! 😅😎 T
The coolest part about this new feature? It can pre-block phone numbers of people who haven’t yet set up their accounts. No more worrying if that person you don't want to swipe across will create a profile. 😉
Safety Tips For Dating App Users:
Dating apps are becoming more and more popular. Everybody wants to find their perfect match! 😍 It may be true that your perfect match is just a swipe or two away, but it’s important to stay safe while you’re on the search. Below are some tips to do just that.
💬Use The Platform To Converse: Dating apps like Tinder or Bumble have Safe Message Filters, so it’s important to message within the app. Users who immediately want to switch to texting using a personal phone number should raise a red flag! 🚩
🗝 Do Not Share Personal Information: It may be obvious to not share your social security number, but more mundane shares may go overlooked. Never share info about your daily routine, who your friends are, where you work, etc. If you do want to exchange phone numbers, consider setting up a Google voice number, instead of giving them your actual number.
🕗Take Your Time: Meeting a new person can be exciting. But it’s important to give yourself some time to get to know them over text before scheduling a date. Make sure to ask them questions to screen for red flags and deal-breakers. Have an overall idea of who you are meeting up with before doing so. 😃
🏢Meet In A Public Place: It is very exciting to finally be ready to meet somebody in real life! But never meet for the first time at somebody’s home. It is the safest practice to meet somewhere public and during the day. ☀️ Say, a coffee shop downtown or a public park! ☕️🌳
💨Bring Pepper Spray: Preparing for a worst-case scenario is always wise. A pepper spray allows you to immobilize an aggressor while also maintaining a safe distance. Just one shot to the eyes, nose, or mouth can give you time to escape to safety while an attacker recovers.
🚗Be In Control Of Your Transportation: Do not rely on your date for a ride. Either drive yourself or have a solid plan for how you are getting there and back home. A trusted friend or a ride-share app are both good options. It’s important to have control over when you leave a date. 🌹
