Hotel Stay From Heck 🛎
What began for many as an exciting trip to Tampa for Wrestlemania, ended as a long night of terror and uncertainty. Victor Hernandez is being accused of holding a 2-year old and a woman hostage at a nearby Tampa hotel. The suspect is from Lexington, North Carolina and the victims are immediate relatives of his.
The 8-hour standoff resulted in guest evacuation, multiple shots fired at law enforcement, and an alleged attempt to set the hotel room ablaze from the suspect.
Victor Hernandez eventually surrendered and is now in custody on two counts of armed false imprisonment. Except for one minor injury endured from an officer, the negotiator and the Tampa SWAT team successfully diffused the situation with no harm to parties involved.
Hotel Security 🦺
As we inch closer towards herd immunity, hotel bookings are on the rise 📈. For those excited to travel again, it's important to still take precautions. If you’re staying in a hotel, you are likely in an environment unfamiliar to you. To minimize any potential danger, follow these tips:
💻Reserve your stay online: The fewer people that can overhear your personal information the better. Get with the times and use an online booking system.
🏢Request a middle floor: Avoid staying on the bottom, or top floor. The bottom floor is too easy to access, and the top floor is the most difficult to evacuate.
💵Avoid using the hotel safe: Hotel safes are notoriously easy to break into and are often the first place thieves go.
🚪Bring a door security bar: Not all hotels have strong locks, especially in certain countries. An extra layer of protection can go a long way.
📺Make it look like you are always there: Before leaving your room, put the TV on and do not disturb sign out to create the illusion someone is in your room.
🗺Get a map: Make an effort to get familiar with the area you are staying in. Appearing uncertain can make you a target.
